Italy, Albania to start cooperation on cross border tourism

ROME, Oct. 23 – Italy and Albania are beginning a project to promote cross-border tourism.
The project, sponsored by the European Union, began at the end of 2006 to foster cross-border cooperation between Italy’s South Salento territory and the coastal area of Vlora in Albania. The budget for the initiative was provided under the EU’s Interreg program as one of six experimental projects between Europe and Italian regions of the Department for Regional Affairs and Local Authorities (Daral).
Promoting sustainable forms of tourism, establishment of thematic routes and initiatives of common interest in cross-border natural heritage, cultural, food, and seasonal tourism were some goals the project considered as “a model of positive examples of partnership between public and private sector tourism”.
