TIRANA, Oct. 20 – The opposition said over the weekend that government policies were driving businesses to bankruptcy and increasing unemployment, aided by the energy crisis that has affected the country.
Shpetim Idrizi of the Socialist party accused the government of lacking expertise in fiscal management and administrative expertise, faking a corruption fight and championing a reform which is transferring the fiscal burdens to the poorest strata of the society. As proof, he claimed that the ten percent flat tax is affecting more people with lower salaries compared to those with larger incomes, and he said reference prices set by customs officials are increasing the cost of taxes and consequently their prices.
