Ex-policeman arrested in Greece

TIRANA, Dec. 10 – A former Albanian policeman was arrested in neighboring Greece. Albanian authorities sought the policeman, Gezim Elmazi, who had been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in Albania following a kidnapping attempt.
Elmazi had fled the prison in Vaqarr, Tirana district in 2002 when he had been allowed one day off. Since then, he had been the subject of an international arrest warrant. Besides the hijacking, he is also a suspect in a crime dating back to 1997.
