TIRANA, Jan.7- In an open letter, Tirana mayor and SP leader, Edi Rama addressed the problem of waste management in the western part of Tirana. The problems have led to overflowing garbage and significant delays in collection schedules. The company which had been responsible for waste collection no longer has the concession and the bid that has allocated the waste management concession to two private companies by the municipality has been rendered null and void by the Agency of Public Procurements (APP) near the Council of Ministers. Rama said that “the arbitrary decision is being appealed in court.” The mayor of the capital reconfirmed in his letter his intention to turn Tirana into Albania’s cleanest city by 2011, the end of his mayoral term.
