VLORA, Jan.10- The AMGJ has raised solidarity feelings across the region and beyond it with environmental experts adhering to the cause of protecting the Adriatic Sea. In a recent visit to Albania, Croatian professors of science Benovic and Lusic have expressed their concern that Petrolifera represents a threat not only for the waters of Albania but as a spillover it can affect even the waters of Montenegro and Croatia. The professors have offered their expertise as well as the assistance of German colleagues to help the AMGJ case.
Protest
On Sunday, the AMGJ organized a popular peaceful protest against the decision to build the industrial park including oil reserves of Petrolifera. The protest had been announced by Alliance coordinator Rezart Aliaj on Saturday. The media reported that the protest was attended by around 2000 people. Some of the protesters symbolically planted pine trees in the designated area of the industrial park. A group of citizens appealed to he central elections Committee for organizing a referendum on the issue but the CEC refused on grounds that a government decision had been taken already and he administration as due to respect its contract with the company.
