INSTAT report December inflation at 3.1 percent

TIRANA, Jan.8 – The Albanian National Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) has reported that the level of inflation for the last month has been 3.1 percent. This figure is within the target rate of the central bank. The report of INSTAT contradicts all previous media reporting on rising prices during the holiday season. INSTAT has recently changed the methodology of inflation calculations widening the consumer basket. During December 2007, the IMF called on the Parliament to monitor closely the INSTAT, currently under the government’ jurisdiction.
