Security of Albanian Airlines

TIRANA, Feb. 21 – The incident which happened Wednesday with the Albanian flight company Bell Air opens again the problem of security operations of the domestic airlines.
Despite the improvement the airlines still use relatively second-hand planes to operate from Tirana to different destinations in Europe, mainly neighboring countries.
There are not many domestic airlines out of the total number of 14, but still they are used by many Albanians, especially also taking into consideration their lower ticket prices sometimes.
Some years ago Albanian airlines were not allowed to land in many European airports. Since last year the Tirana international Airport has been totally renovated with a new passenger and cargo terminal. That has also increased security steps and control of the airlines using it. That all means that passengers travelling from there hope their security will be to international standards, including the use of domestic airlines.
