TIRANA, March 3 – Tirana International Airport will present its achievements to a global audience at Europe’s leading travel trade show؉TB Berlinئor the second successive year. The trade show will be held March 5-9.
The TIA has previously found the trade fair to be a valuable platform in promoting its potential and attracting international attention to tourism in Albania.
The past year, 2007, was very successful for the Airport as passenger numbers, cargo handled and air traffic movement steadily increased, while in the same year TIA finalized some of its key infrastructure investments, in particular the opening of its new passenger terminal.
“Last year saw Tirana International Airport set new standards for air transport in Albania, concerning the quality of services and the number of people using the Airport. It is a pleasure for us to promote these records at such a prestigious event as ITB Berlin,” said TIA’s CEO, Andrea Gebbeken.
The extension of the passenger terminal, which will increase the Airport’s capacity to 1.5 million passengers per year, is set to begin construction in the coming months.
Since 23 April 2005, overall responsibility for the development, operation and management of Tirana International Airport has been in the hands of Tirana International Airport SHPK (TIA), an Albanian company under German-American ownership. The shareholders are HOCHTIEF AirPort, DEG Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft and the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund.
Backed by the shareholders expertise in airport management and financing, TIA has set itself the goal of expanding the Airport in 2008 and setting new standards of comfort, convenience and service. During 2007, more than EUR 50 million was invested in the Airport.
