TIRANA, March 10 – Participation at international trade fairs is making a valuable contribution to the bottom lines of four Albanian companies selling herbs and spices, essential oils, chestnuts and mushrooms. Preliminary new export sales estimates based on contacts with over 350 traders from USA, Germany, Austria, France, Israel, Switzerland, Spain and Italy and Poland, are expected to reach just over $1 billion, a 21 percent increase from 2007.
The AMLA, Tomadhea, Xherdo, and the Albanian Trading companies, all producing organically certified products, participated in the BioFach 2008 Trade Fair held on February 21-24 in Nuremburg, Germany. The attendance of the Albanian companies was made possible through the financial support of the USAID, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Consumers Protection, GTZ, and SASA/Fible.
The companies established new trading partners and strengthened existing ones. Albanian companies also gained first-hand knowledge of the packaging, labeling, adding value and technology upgrades which will lead to further economic success of the companies and their support networks.
