TIRANA, April 25 – Malta and Denmark have ratified the European Union Stabilization and Association Agreement Albania signed with the bloc two years ago.
The total number of EU members to ratify the Albanian agreement now stands at 17, but nine others nations must still ratify the pact.
Following that, the EU will set a time for Albania to enter the candidacy stage for EU membership.
Albania signed the SAA in 2006, which is considered the first step toward full membership, though no date for membership has been set.
Albania must comply with a set of standards before it hopes to become an EU member. (Tirana Times Staff)
