TIRANA, May 12 – Albania agreed last week to send troops to Chad and the Central African Republic to take part in the ongoing EU-led peacekeeping mission.
“Albania will participate with a unit, and I think it’s a good decision, because it is a very important moment for our country,” according to Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
“We will do our utmost to take part in NATO and other EU missions and to help with their peacekeeping work,” Berisha said.
Albania already has a total of 350 troops in EU-led missions in Bosnia, a NATO-led mission in Afghanistan and with U.S.-led forces in Iraq. Albania also signed a pre-membership agreement with the European Union two years ago.(Tirana Times Staff)
