Civil Registry Work On Track, Says Minister

TIRANA, May 10 – Interior Ministry officials met last week with representatives of local authorities from throughout the country to discuss work on the preparation of the civil registry that is scheduled to be completed by the end of this summer.
The civil registry is the foundation for the country’s new ID cards and passports, and it has been a continuous problem as it is manipulated by political partied during elections in post-communist Albania.
Together with international experts, Interior Minister Bujar Nishani recently toured the Berat office preparing the civil registry.
The computerized list of the country’s residents is set to be ready by the end of this summer.
