TIRANA, July 8 – The energy situation should worsen during the summer, said the Albanian Power Corporation (KESH) and the Ministry of Economics, Transports and Energy (METE). KESH has already started to import energy, to cover the needs of the country. Previously, KESH had declared that they expected an energy crisis in the country, due to the decreasing level of the water in the dams. The fear for shortages was confirmed by METE as well.
Although KESH will be working at full capacity, that will not guarantee a full coverage of the territory with electricity, METE officials said. KESH will give a high priority to tourist areas, especially seaside resorts.
The import of energy will raise the cost of power, but METE reassured the consumers that they will not increase the price they have to pay. Although KESH and the Power Distribution Operator (OSSH) are focusing on decreasing technical losses and increasing revenues the prices will stay at the current level, said Iva Tico, METE Spokeperson.
