TIRANA, Sep 1 – This year many Albanian tourists spent their holiday money outside of Albania, according to the Albanian Central Bank’s recent data on the financial spending of tourism.
During the first half of 2008, a deficit of tourist services amounted to 23 million euro, compared to a registered 10 million euro surplus for the same period last year.
The deficit is attributed to the fact that the high amount of Albanian tourists’ expenses abroad, currently reaching 494 million euro. These tourists increased spending by 28 per cent, while the income of the country increased only by 19 per cent, reaching 471 million, for the first six months of the year.
