TIRANA, Jan 22 – European Commission Ambassador in Tirana Helmut Lohan said on Wednesday that the June 28 parliamentary election will be considered by Brussels as a litmus test for Albania’s bid to join the bloc.
Albania’s previous post-communist general elections have all had shortcomings and have not met with international standards.
“The parliamentary elections will be a test for Albania’s accession into the EU,” Lohan said during a conference in capital Tirana with foreign investors.
The EU has made it clear that these polls must be above criticism if Tirana wants to make progress towards joining the 27-member bloc.
