STAMFORD, May 11 – Stamford police identified the 9-year-old boy found dead in his Cove Road home Monday morning.
Michael Pleqi, whose death remains under investigation, was found in bed at his family’s apartment at 69 Cove Road at 7 a.m. Monday, police said.
The state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined Michael’s cause of death.
Michael’s name was initially withheld as authorities attempted to contact the boy’s relatives in Albania, Stamford Police Lt. Sean Cooney said.
Michael was a student at a special needs school in Trumbull.
Because of concerns about the outbreak of swine flu, officials sent a tissue specimen from Michael to the federal Centers for Disease Control, which verified his death was not related to the virus.
Stamford health officials expect the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner to make a preliminary finding of a cause of death for Pleqi within days, though a final determination could take six weeks.
