TIRANA, May 10 – Albanian President Bamir Topi called on the country’s politics to stay clear of the judicial system, and for the justice system to treat all citizens equally and fairly.
On Sunday May 10th Albania celebrated the national justice day where scores of persons of the legal system convened.
Topi thanked judges, prosecutors and the police for their contributions over the years and reiterated the need for independence and integrity within the system.
“Today we are a NATO member country and very soon a European Union member. That is why we are obliged, in the true meaning of the word, to apply the standards of the Euro-Atlantic family,” said Topi.
Justice is one of the main shortcomings in post-communsit Albania. It lacks the trust of the citizens due to its corruption and political affiliation.
There are many efforts done by the justice persons themselves and also local authorities, including increasing assistance from the other countries and international institutions along the country’s integration efforts into the European Union.
