TIRANA, June 19 – The Central Election Commission (CEC) has asked broadcasters to give more air time to certain political parties that saw their campaign slots reduced.
A media monitoring commission has been ‘fighting’ among themselves and has continuously presented two different reports on how much coverage to give to specific political coalitions from different broadcasters.
It seems the CEC decision, also not taken unanimously, might continue to create friction among them.
The CEC focused mainly on distributing air time between the main political parties — the ruling Democratic Party and the main opposition Socialist Party — ahead of the polls on June 28th.
The media is poorly covering the activities of the political parties. Currently it is very normal for each political coalition to prepare its own tape and distributes it to the broadcasters just to put it on air.
