CEC to check transparency of the political parties

TIRANA, Aug 5 – The Central Elections Commission said they would soon decide who would be the auditors of the transparency process of the political parties.
More than 60 accounting officer will be considered to be shortlisted for the ones who are to check party finances.
The two main parties – governing Democratic Party and main opposition Socialist party – will be checked by two experts each, while all the other parties by one expert.
The auditors are selected based on a coin toss.
Transparency of the political parties has always been a main shortcoming in the electoral process. Political parties, especially the two big ones, use many hidden funds during their electoral campaign. The law says that the parties should accept no higher than one million lek donation and that they should also show the source of such a funding.
