New Albanian carrier Tafa Air starts flights in Kosovo and Germany

TIRANA, Dec 1ؔhe local low-cost carrier Tafa Air, which was founded in earlier in May by Albanian businessman Taf Tafa with backing from enterprises in Albania and Kosovo, launched its daily service on December 1, the company said. It will operate flights to three destinations in Germany including Berlin Neubrandenburg, Dortmund and Friedrichshafen , where Albanian community in Germany is focused. The same courses will be served daily from Kosovo’s capital Pristina airport, while Tirana-Pristina service will be available twice daily.
Tafa Air intends to expand its services including destinations in UK, Austria and Switzerland . In particular flights to Geneva and London will be launched in summer 2010. The company will initially use tow air carriers leased by EU operators – Airbus A320-200s and Gulfstream G200 business jet. The low-cost operator will also start cargo services as of January 1, 2010.
Currently, 12 air carriers operate from international Tirana airport servicing flights to 30 destinations. The leading air carrier was Belleair with 42.1% of the passengers in Jan-Sep period, followed by Alitalia (13.5%) and Albanian Airlines (8.9%).
