TIRANA, June 23 – Multicultural Permet, a festival bringing together Albanian and regional folklore groups, held its third edition in the southern town of Permet. The festival held from June 20 to 22 brought folklore performances by Albanian, Kosovo, Macedonian, Greek and Bulgarian groups.
The festival also featured the folklore of minorities and ethnic groups living in Albania such as the Greeks, Macedonians and Roma community.
Several other events such as an exhibition by painter Gjergj Tole and the promotion of some books were held as part of the festival.
The southern town of Permet has been selected as the host of the festival as the hometown of renowned Albanian folk singers such as Laver Bariu, Mentor Xhemali, Remzi Lela.
Multicultural Permet festival is a member of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts, an international organization related to UNESCO for the safeguarding, promotion and diffusion of traditional culture and folklore.
This folk festival, organized in Albania is dedicated to multicultural ethnic culture. The festival, which began in 2000, is organized in the very beautiful city of Permeti in south Albania. The city is well known for its finest folk music. The festival is organized by ELENA GJIKA folk association, municipality of Permet, Ministry of Culture of Albania in collaboration with Albanian Section of CIOFF.
The philosophy unique in its type is to promote peace, love, friendship, tolerance and coexistence in the region.
Apart from singers, the festival also brings together international scholars and musicologists.
