New car number plates

TIRANA, Jan. 17 – Albania will start in the next few weeks to produce new number plates for the cars, a move that tried to fulfill the European standards.
All number plates will be changed but initially they will be placed in all new vehicles.
Authorities from the Transport Directorate explain that the new number-plates will avoid cases of abuse with stolen vehicles or the use of false number-plates with some kinds of vehicles. “The application for the new number-plates will start soon. We are talking about the beginning of February, few days after the procedures for the number-plates’ tender are closed. Applications can be made only by persons who apply for new number-plates, those who want to change the ownership of a vehicle or those who want to have a new number-plate. The cost of the number-plate will be the same. There are nearly 24 types of number-plates; all of them have been changed,” said Kozeta Gina, Director of Information Directorate in the General Directorate of Road Transport.
