TIRANA, Jan. 31 – Liza Vorfi, one of the Albanian National Theatre’s founders and one of its most acclaimed actresses, died last weekend at the age of 88.
“Liza was one of the founders of this institution, which at the same time served as an acting school for many generations,” said the National Theatre in a statement.
Colleagues, officials and art lovers paid tribute to the actress in a ceremony held at the National Theatre last Sunday.
With dozens of starring roles on stage and screen, Vorfi is remembered by her colleagues and the public for her natural and noble performing.
Born in Kosovo in 1924, eight years later her family would move to Tirana. Vorfi studied in Italy’s Rome Conservatory for four years before returning to Albania in 1945.
Vorfi had recently been awarded the “Naim Frasheri” title for her contribution to Albanian performing arts.
