Returnees to benefit tax favours

TIRANA, Feb. 21 – Government is examining a draft law which would make the return and reintegration of repatriated Albanian immigrants easier. The draft law foresees that returned immigrants will be excluded from customs duties for their personal cars but also for equipment and machinery they bring for business purposes. The bill, approved in principle by majority deputies of the labour and social affairs committee this week, is also an obligation by the European Union to facilitate the integration of immigrants who voluntarily return or are repatriated.
“This category of migrants will benefit services for children with training courses and curricula to learn Albanian. Other migrants will also be offered consultancy in investments, home loans etc,” said representatives of the Labour and Social Affairs Ministry.
Opposition lawmakers of the parliamentary committee hailed the initiative but said they were skeptical about its implementation because of lack of funds.
The draft law will also create a database of returned Albanian migrants, serving as a reference to assess their need and offer assistance.
