TIRANA, June 13 – Business costs continued to rise even in the first quarter of this year. Latest INSTAT data show the Producer Price Index (PPI) rose by 1 percent compared to the final quarter of 2010 and 3.1 percent compared to the first quarter of 2010.
The extractive industry producer prices were up 3.2 percent compared to the previous quarter. PPI in the processing industry was 1.3 percent. Within this group producer prices for the food industry grew by 2.5 percent, the textile industry by 0.6 percent and the production of furniture and services by 5.3 percent.
PPI for domestic products registered a 0.7 percent growth compared to the final quarter of 2010, mainly due to higher prices in the extractive industry which were up 3.5 percent.
The export price index slightly rose by 2.1 percent due to higher prices in the extractive and processing industries.
