TIRANA, July, 28 – The northeastern town of Kukes will have a new historical museum by the end of this year. The UNDP-funded museum is being established in the town’s center next to the Gratitude Memorial, which commemorates the hospitality of the town of Kukes for hundreds of thousands of Kosovars during 1999 when they faced massive expulsion from the Serbian military. “The museum will be built under a 15 million lek fund awarded by the UNDP. This investment will enable the quick improvement of the museum situation in the region,” Bukurosh Onuzi, a national project coordinator was quoted as saying by local media. The previous museum building was privatized in the early 90s, soon after the collapse of the communist regime. Many of the objects displayed there have been lost.
