Macedonia’s ‘Punk’s not dead’ wins TIFF 2011

“Home,” a U.S short fiction production directed by Albania’s Kast Hasa was announced the Best Albanian movie. “Kast Hasa in the film Home returns to shore with us a story that we are usually not wanting to deal with,” the jury said.

TIRANA, Dec. 12 – “Punk’s not dead,” a documentary by Macedonia’s Vladimir Blazevski has been announced the best feature film of this year’s 9th edition of the Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF), the first and only international cinema festival of its kind in Albania. In a prize award ceremony held on Dec. 10, an international jury headed by Elvira Diamanti, the director of the Film National Center Archive, selected the Macedonian production as TIFF’s best feature for “A microcosmic state of feeling describing vitality of a generation. A special film that does not leave us indifferent.”
Young French-Luxembourgish director Beryl Kolt grabbed the best director prize for his “Hot Hot Hot” feature film. Rob Stanley, the British actor starring in this movie was named TIFF’s best actor.
The best actress prize went to Romania’s Monica Birledeanu for her starring role in “Maternity Blues” for “the convenient and efficient interpretation of a complex and contradictory character.”

Other awards included the Best Fiction Short Film, the Best Animation Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film, Best Experimental Short Film, Media Award, and the Imperial Award by Imperial Cinemas.
More than 80 films from 63 countries competed in this year’s edition of Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF), the first and only international cinema festival of its kind in Albania.
The festival, held from December 5 to 10 at the Imperial Cinemas, combined a calendar of feature and short films in all formats and genres, including fiction, documentary, animation and experimental.
