TIRANA, Aug. 13 – Competitive prices and improved road infrastructure have made Albania the top destination for Kosovo tourists. Kosovo media report more and more Kosovars are choosing Albania especially at weekends and visiting less neighbouring Montenegro because of its high prices.
Kosovo border police data show some 660,000 people entered Albania in a 70-day period from June 2012. To compare, only 49,000 people entered Montenegro from Kosovo during the same period, according to data published by Kosovo’s daily Koha Ditore. More than 1.77 million people, both Albanians and foreigners, entered Albania from June 1 to July 31 2012, according to Albanian State Police data. The majority of around 1 million were foreigners while 715,000 Albanian, mostly migrants, police said in a statement. Compared to June-July 2012, police report an increase by 139,000 people entering Albania. Kosovars and Macedonians dominate the foreign tourists list followed by Macedonians, Greeks, Italians and Germans.
