TIRANA, Oct. 17 – “Tirana Runs” will be the motto of the first marathon in the Albanian capital. Organized by the Tirana Municipality, the first ever international Tirana marathon will bring a variety of races including Run for Fun for non-racers, the 5 km, 10 km, the 21 km half-marathon and the 42 km general and handbike marathon. Held as part of events commemorating Albania’s 100th anniversary of independence, the event will kick off on Sunday, Oct. 21. The event is aimed at promoting sports and Tirana’s cultural and tourist values among its foreign participants.
Some 1,500 athletes are expected to participate in the race.

Why run?

“Because we have the need for others to learn about Albania and we appreciate you participation.
You will have the opportunity to run in Tirana and if you are unable to run 42 km than you can choose one of the other distances. You have the opportunity to combine tourism with sport. You will learn about Tirana while running and see it culture, tradition and art. You will run the beautiful flat roads of Tirana with blocked traffic and among other international runners,” organizers say.
