Tourist info point opens in Durres Port

TIRANA, May 20 – Albania’s top two international hubs, the Tirana International Airport and the Durres Port are now both offering tourist information offices. After the opening of the first tourist info point at the airport in August 2012, a similar office has also been established in Durres Port, the country’s biggest. Both offices were opened with the support of the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA).
The newly established tourist information office provides detailed information to tourists, and hand them promotional materials on tourism in Albania.
Turkish Ambassador to Albania Hasan Asan pledged to intensify cooperation between the two countries in the tourism sector, underlining the importance of the opening of tourist information offices considering Albania’s great potentials in tourism.
Some 850,000 passengers are handled in Durres annually port which since 2012 has a new modern passenger terminal. More than 1,000 foreign tourists travelling on cruise ships have visited Albania in the past two months, Durres port authorities say.
The city boasts a Roman amphitheatre of the 2nd century A.D, one of the largest in the Balkan.
Archaeologists have discovered some of the country’s most beautiful mosaics in the ancient city of Durres and its suburbs.
