TIRANA, July 17 – A 300-year-old arched bridge in the southeastern lake town of Pogradec risks collapsing because of damaged caused by treasure hunters searching for gold. Local media report the bridge, which is a first category monument, is being put at risk because of digging by unidentified hunters in its base structure.
The Golik Bridge spans the wild Shkumbin River and dates back to the XVII Century. This old double-span stone structure is situated along the ancient Egnatia Road, near Golik, which is a charming village in the heart of the Mokra region. Along the road to Golik, there are breathtaking views of waterfalls and mountain scenery from deep valleys.
