TIRANA, Oct. 9 – A decision whether the Durres amphitheatre, recently selected by leading European heritage organisation Europa Nostra as one of the seven most threatened landmarks in Europe, will receive funding for its preservation and restoration will be taken early next December, a team of Europa Nostra experts announced this week after visiting the Durres amphitheatre.
Irina Suboti欠Europa Nostra’s Vice-President, described the Roman Durres amphitheatre which dates back to the beginning of the second century as invaluable heritage not only for Albania but also for the whole of Europe. “This is cultural heritage which many countries would like to have,” she said.
Speaking about the inspection at the Durres amphitheatre, she said the conclusions would be made available after scientific tests. “We will consider the possibility of cooperation with local structures for possible financing on concrete intervention,” she added.
