TIRANA, Dec. 19 – Fatos Sela, one of Albania’s best known stage actors, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 65, leaving behind dozens of starring roles. He was buried on Thursday in a private ceremony after suffering from a long disease. Sela started his career as a director at the public broadcaster where he worked from 1972 to 1975 immediately after graduating from the Academy of Arts. He worked as an actor and director at the Bylis Theatre in Fier from 1975 to 1995 before continuing his career at the National Theatre.
He most recently appeared in a drama staged on Albania’s 100th anniversary of independence last year performing the starring role of independence leader Ismail Qemali in the play called “Ismail Qemali’s dream.”
Sela’s death follows that of Roland Trebicka, one of Albania’s most popular stage actors and comedians.
