TIRANA, May 12 – Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin were performed this week in Tirana by internationally renowned Albanian violin virtuoso Tedi Papavrami. In two consecutive nights on May 13 and 14, Papavrami performed the set of six works by the famous German composer which consists of three sonatas da chiesa, in four movements, and three partitas (or partias), in dance-form movements.
In the 1990s, Papavrami launched his career as soloist and chamber musician. He was also a member of the Schumann Quartet (with piano) for nine years. He has performed in recitals with chamber music partners such as Philippe Bianconi, Nelson Goerner, Maria Joao Pires, Martha Argerich, Gary Hofmann, Marc Coppey, Paul Meyer and Lawrence Power. Ever since 2011, he has been presenting the complete Beethoven violin sonatas and piano trios in the company of cellist Xavier Phillips and pianist Fran谩s Frꥩric Guy (with whom Papavrami makes frequent concert appearances).
Papavrami now lives in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was appointed violin professor at the Haute ʣole de Musique de Gen鷥 in 2008. He plays on one of the two violins built for him by violinmaker Christian Bayon. He is also a renowned translator into and from French.
