TIRANA, March 17 – Petro Zheji, considered the master of Albanian translations, passed away this week at the age of 85 leaving behind several masterpieces, including Cervantes’ Don Quixote.

Zheji, also known as an Albanian language researcher, was a polyglot who masterfully brought into Albanian works from Italian, French, English, Spanish, German, Russian, Hebrew, Sanskrit, ancient Greek and Latin.

Prime Minister Edi Rama described Zheji as an “unmatched master of language who made Don Quixote speak Albanian as if he was born in Albania.”

Petro Zheji was married to renowned actress Besa Imami who died last year and is survived by his only son, media analyst Artur Zheji.
