TIRANA, Feb. 10 – Albanian Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta on Tuesday told his visiting Kosovo counterpart Kadri Veseli that Tirana supports Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue for their bilateral importance but also for the regional one.

Veseli was on a visit to Tirana where he meets with all top leaders, including President Bujar Nishani and Prime Minister Edi Rama.

“We have expressed our support for Kosovo’s continuous institutional and democratic strengthening and we are confident that in a constructive way Kosovo’s political forces will cooperate in the interest of Kosovo’s future,” said Meta after meeting with Veseli.

Meta also said that Kosovo will take part at the meeting of the parliaments’ speakers of the south East European Parliamentary Assembly that is to be held in May in Tirana.

Veseli said that bilateral relations will increase and that both countries will especially intensify the economic cooperation, something that will be assisted by their parliaments too.

He said that Kosovo’s parliament has also asked their Tirana counterparts to help in their country’s recognition to the world.

Kosovo was assisted in 1999 by NATO to give an end to Belgrade’s mass killings and genocide that had pushed about one million of its citizens to leave their homes. Following that the new Kosovo government, governing under the auspices of the UN and NATO, declared independence from Serbia in 2008. But not all countries have recognized it.
