Over 1700 inscriptions in ancient Greek that were found in Albanian territories have been published in France in four volumes. Part of the book entitled “Ancient Albania revealed through ancient Greek inscriptions” by French Pierre Cabanes and Albanian scholar Faik Drini are over 1700 inscriptions founf in several ancient cities throughout Albania, such as Amanti, Butrint, Finiq, Antigonea, etc.
“Greek has been a dominant language in the region, but this does not mean that everyone was speaking in Greek, because in these inscriptions we can find documented evidence that other nations, where we often read the word locals, used their own language that could have been just spoken language,” Pierre Cabanes said during the book promotion at the National History Museum in Tirana. “Ancient Albania revealed through ancient Greek inscriptions” book are a must for historians and scholars of antiquity, so that they will be able to identify scientific and historical truths while Head of Archaeology in Albania Luan Perzhita appreciated the 90 years of cooperation among Albanian and French archaeologists. Director of the National History Museum Melsi Labi said that since the number of documented sources of the ancient history of Albania is relatively low, these found inscriptions written in ancient Greek shed light on antiquity period.
