TIRANA, Jan. 12 – Zeqirja Rexhepi, a Canada-based artist with Albanian roots has opened a solo “Self Portrait” exhibition at Nova Scotia’s The Craig Gallery of Alderney Landing. The 61-year old Kosovo born artist who has been living in Canada for the past two decades, has widely exhibited his paintings in Kosova and abroad, and was commissioned as a muralist to create frescoes for churches and mosques.
His most accomplished mural is Albanian Persecution, 1846 (650m, 1991) in the Church of Binqa in Gjilan, Kosova. The veteran artist has completed many mural commissions in Nova Scotia including the Tallships mural in downtown Halifax (2000), a series of eight murals at Alderney Landing based on historic Dartmouth (2003-05), Map of Canada for the Immigration of Canada (2009), and murals in the Cole Harbour United Church and Trinity Church.
His “Self Portrait” exhibition will be open from January 12 to 29.
