Ousted minister says accusing gov’t of corruption led to sacking

TIRANA, Jan. 31 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has sacked Justice Minister Ylli Manjani, a maverick representative of the junior coalition partner who had made direct accusations of ties between government officials and the widespread cultivation of marijuana as well as corruption. Manjani’s party, the Socialist Movement for Integration led by Ilir Meta, had recently seen friction with Rama’s Socialist Party, and Manjani had been the most vocal, but not the only, voice accusing Socialist Party representatives in the government of corruption and and ties to crime.
