TIRANA, April 25 – A former police official, Ervin Dalipaj, and another man, Xhino Dautaj, were shot dead as their vehicle was sprayed with bullets near the village of Sukth in Durres.
Dalipaj, 37, had served for four years as chief of Tirana police’s economic crimes unit, but was dismissed from duty with the change of police directors following the elections of 2013.
The two victims had come under suspicion of criminal activity themselves in connection to two murders in recent years. Dalipaj had been wanted by police in a kidnaping and murder case.
In his police work, Dalipaj is remembered that as police chief who arrested the father of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, when he was an opposition MP. The senior Tahiri faced charges of medicine smuggling for his pharmacy, charges that were later dismissed.
