Former PM says U.S. ambassador has ‘conflict of interest’ in general prosecutor’s replacement

TIRANA, Dec. 14 – Former Democratic Party Prime Minister Sali Berisha said Tuesday U.S. Ambassador Donald Lu’s stance that Albania needs a temporary chief prosecutor is unconstitutional. Berisha said Lu is looking to decide who will be Albania’s chief prosecutor, which falls outside his role, and added the U.S. ambassador has “a conflict of interest” in the case. Lu “has, in an indirect way, asked to propose names of the next general prosecutor, which is very unacceptable. If he wants to name the prosecutor here, then he is overstepping his mission,” Berisha told a talk show on ABC News TV….
