Oct. 12, Exhibition of ‘’Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt: Collages and Editions’’
National Arts Gallery of Tirana at 7 p.m.. The exhibition will be open until Jan. 12, 2019
Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt is a German artist which has experimented and worked on the border between visual poetry and abstract art. By the beginning of 1970s, she started to create graphics on an Erika typewriter. Out of her hands, the black and red symbols of the typewriter turn into dynamic waves, a stream of symbols and poetry structures built with punctuation marks and letters. She spread her works globally to ‘Mail Art’ artists.
The artistic work of Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt is closely linked to the history of Germany’s division. Living and working in the ex- Democratic Republic of Germany, she expressed her percepted oppression through graphics of cages and towers. Her studio in Eastern Berlin turned into a meeting space for the local and international contemporary artists. After the fall of Berlin’s wall, Wolf-Rehfeldt decided to stop her work on the thought that they weren’t necessary any longer.
This is the first exhibition in Western Balkans from Wolf-Rehfeldt’s works. The exhibition is curated by Sven Spieker and architect Johanna Meyer-Grohbrugge.
