TIRANA, Dec. 17 – Canada-based Albanian actor and painter Artur Gorishti is back home this time with a special exhibition featuring some recent paintings and his first short stories book. His exhibition titled Defective Interviews is featuring some 40 paintings Gorishti has created during the past 10 years. Gorishti, mostly known as an actor and painter, has also experimented in literature with the publication of his first book of short stories called Dyert (Doors).
The exhibition at the Zenit gallery in Tirana will remain open until December 24
Artur Gorishti is an artist whose multifaceted production extends to film, painting and photography.
Artur Gorishti began his acting career in Albania at age 21 with the lead role in Dora e Ngrohte (1983), a performance that earned him a national film award for Best Actor and made the controversial film a landmark in Albanian cinema. Starring roles in Slogans (2001; Best New Talent, Cannes; Grand Prix, Tokyo International Film Festival) and Father and Godfather (2007; Special Mention, Med Film Festival) are among the 14 lead performances and many other collaborations marking his two decades of work with Albania’s most influential film and television directors.
He has exhibited in solo and group shows in Europe and North America, and was featured in open 2003 arte & cinema in Venice. Born in Albania and a graduate of the Academy of Arts of Tirana (1987), Gorishti lives in Montreal, where he has shown at Galerie Luz and Galerie Pangꥮ A retrospective exhibition of his work was hosted by Galerie Rye (Montreal) in September 2010.
Since 2006, Gorishti has continued his career on North American screens. In addition to playing a lead role in the movie Suzie (2007), he appeared in The Good Lie (2012) and Diego Star (2013). He has also played parts in popular Canadian and American television series such as XIII: The Conspiracy (2007), The Gentleman (2008), Blue Mountain State (2010) and 30 Vies (2011). He is currently slated to star in Bota (in production).
