TIRANA, Oct. 6 – An actress will be starring as Hamlet for the first time in the history of Albanian theatre. Veteran actress Luiza Xhuvani, who has undertaken this challenge, will make her comeback as an actor after a break from her acting career because of her engagement in politics.
The famous Shakespeare tragedy directed by Kià§o Londo is scheduled to make its premiere at the “Kujtim Spahivogli” experimental theatre next to the National Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Encompassing political intrigue and sexual obsession, philosophical reflection and violent action, Hamlet is Shakespeare’s ‘poem unlimited’, a colossus in the story of the English language and the fullest expression of his genius.
The last time Hamlet was staged in Albania was in June 2014, when London’s Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre performed it as part of a global tour of Hamlet marking the 450th birth anniversary of the greatest playwright of all time.
