TIRANA, Sep 1 – Albania was mentioned by an international news agency among a number of countries in central, eastern and south-eastern Europe planning to build new nuclear power reactors or extend the life of existing ones to meet growing domestic demand and replace ageing power capacity.
Albania was mentioned by Reuters as the country which suffers chronic power shortages. It said last year it wanted to develop nuclear power generation and was ready to invite Italians to build a plant on its soil.
It also said that the Italian power utility Enel has said it was looking into nuclear opportunities in Albania in the “very long term”.
