TIRANA, Sep. 24 – Albania denounced the explosion in Kosova’s capital Monday that killed three people and injured nine others, according to the Foreign Ministry.
“Supporting the Kosovar government, Albania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs encourages the competent institutions to clarify this criminal act and as soon as possible bring the guilty persons to justice,” said a statement.
Monday’s explosion was one of the most powerful explosions to have rocked Kosova’s capital, Pristina, since the end of war in 1999.
Ethnic Albanian leaders and Serbia’s officials are to meet in direct talks on September 28 in New York City, the first such meeting since the U.N. sponsored negotiations failed to reconcile the sides earlier this year.
Kosova is formally part of Serbia, but has been under U.N. and NATO control since 1999 when the alliance bombed Serb forces and ended the troops’ brutal crackdown on separatist ethnic Albanians.
