TIRANA, Sept. 7 – The British Embassy in Tirana launched on Wednesday a “Commercial Insights 2011′ Booklet highlighting investment, export and trade opportunities in the markets of Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia. The initiative demonstrates the British Government’s commitment to developing closer business and commercial links with the countries of the Western Balkans.
The British Ambassador Fiona McIlwham noted that all three countries share an ambition to become EU members; an ambition that the UK supports. She said that “applying EU standards – continuing to improve the business environment, to simplify and improve the predictability the regulatory framework, to tackle corruption and improve transparency would be important in attracting further investment. The Commission’s Progress report next month will review progress. But a better measure of success will, of course, be more UK investment and bilateral business with Albania.”
The project is a joint effort of the British Embassies in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia and was funded by the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office. In addition to listing the cross border opportunities, the booklet also includes a directory list, with contacts of main institutions in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia as an aid to British Businesses.
