Albanian Ministry of Culture with the support of the Region of Puglia, the Albanian Culture Center, the Gramshi Foundation in Puglia, and Besa publishing house took part for the first time in 2016 Turin International Book Fair.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Albania’s presence at Turin International Book fair, initiated by Albanian Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro, underlines the willingness to strengthen cultural cooperation with Italy, giving in this way life to a wider activities program that will help Albania to be more recognized in Italy, paying special attention to the young generation of writers.
“Culture-passport, Albania’s motto at Turin International Book Fair, underlines the idea that culture, besides being an identity passport, enables us to transcend the limits and communicate with other cultures. In this sense, the literature, as the most vivid expression of the authentic culture of a country, is the best way to deepen the true links, based on “warmer values”, the ones of love, friendship, poetry or history,” according to Kumbaro.
The theme of migration and in particular the phenomenon of Albanian literature in Italian, will be the focus of discussions and some of the meetings. Among some of the meeting are the “Beyond the borders of water and words” which will take place on May 14, 2016 at 14.00 where writers Anilda Ibrahimi and Alessandro Leogrande, director Roland Sejko, journalist and director of Albanian Culture Center Benko Gjata will be present.
Another meeting entitled “From one country to another, from one language to another, the art of writing as a passport” will take place on May 15, from 10:30 to 11:30, with the participation of several writers such as Carmine Abate, Arben Dedja, Visar Zhiti, ect.
Turin International Book Fair will take place from May 12-16, 2016.
