TIRANA, April 7 – Albania sent the second military mission to Chad, this time as a NATO member country.
Sixty-three Albanian soldiers left to join a European Union-led force in Chad.
The first mission was back last month after a six-month mission helping to protect refugees from Sudan’s Darfur region. Refugees are being sheltered in camps near Chad’s capital, N’Djamena.
Albania has small troop contingents in Bosnia and Afghanistan where it has pledged to increase its support.
The Albanian troops will accompany convoys and personalities, protect special objects and secure the military base.
According to Defense Minister Gazmend Oketa the military should get most of the credit for the country’s NATO membership achievement.
