TIRANA, April 7 – Albania expressed its deep condolences to the victims of the quake in neighboring Italy earlier this week.
President Bamir Topi, Prime Minister Sali Berisha and opposition Socialist Party leader Edi Rama all sent letters to top Italian officials.
Berisha sent a message of sympathy to the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi to express deep sorrow, feelings of solidarity and sympathy for the families of the victims, the government and the friendly Italian people, in these difficult moments when a powerful earthquake has struck the Abruzzo region, killing many people, injuring many others and causing considerable material damage.
Expressing pain and solidarity, Premier Berisha through this message also voices his belief that the government and the friendly Italian people could overcome the earthquake repercussions with determination.
Berisha also told Berlusconi of the government’s decision to accord a modest amount of 50,000 Euros in support of the damaged families from this natural disaster.
In another gesture of solidarity Albania’s Red Cross also offered 5,000 USD.
An Albanian child from Albania proper and four other Albanians from neighboring Macedonia were among the hundreds of victims of the Italian quake.
